Burger and Lobster

What it says on the tin~

I feel like I’ve been featuring a lot of seafood on here lately – I guess it has been the summer for it? Who knows – but I’m massively keen on crustaceans at the moment having almost died and gone to heaven at Bea’s Crawfish Boil recently and now, at Friend S’s suggestion, Soho’s Burger and Lobster.

Cool atmosphere filled with well-dressed patrons

If you look on the website you won’t find much except for directions and whether they take reservations (their original Mayfair branch doesn’t but Soho takes reservations for six or more). S was once told there was a three hour wait for dinner in Mayfair so ended up eating elsewhere and suggested we take the granny option turning up at Soho for 6pm on the Saturday night of the bank holiday. And that my friends is what we did, five of us, all ordering exactly the same thing and loving it.

Essential tools – a plastic bib, that metal thing to crush the shell, a wipe for your hands~

There is a reason why the menu doesn’t feature on Burger and Lobster’s website. Basically, there are three options:

Burger £20

Lobster (steamed or steamed + grilled) £20

Lobster roll £20

All come with skinny French fries and salad, with a choice of plain butter or garlic lemon butter to go with the lobster.

The main event: lobster, fries, salad, lemony garlicky butter… SO GOOD.

I was still full the next day. The portions are HUGE, we’re talking a whole lobster per person here plus a generous serving of fries (the salad appeared more as a token green item). The lobster was easy to eat, though there’s no point in getting the knives and forks out, just dive in with your hands. The lemon garlic butter went insanely well with it. There was a lot of food, it took a long time to eat it, but we persevered and most of us managed to clear our gigantic plates.

A tip, maybe not if you’re expecting a coronary in the near future though, dip the fries in the butter, holy cow, amazing…

Somehow we ended up ordering dessert, sharing two between the five of us, and though we didn’t finish them, we definitely didn’t regret ordering them at all. I’m talking the most phenomenal chocolate mousse with peanuts and gooey, warm salted caramel, and a cheesecake served with strawberries which was excellent. At £3.50 each, they are well worth it.

Dessert – don’t judge a book by its cover. These were excellent.

All up, the bill came to £28 each, including the main meal, a homemade lemonade and dessert. After two hours of fun, we left full, happy and not at all put out by snooty service (I initially thought this might occur judging by the reception on the door, but our waitress was down-to-earth and really cool). I plan to take Mr Man back one day as I know his stomach would love it, though not for a while, crustaceans and I are taking a break from eachother.

I saw this sign on the way out and was intrigued.

Burger and Lobster’s Soho branch can be found on Dean Street, right in the heart of Soho, go early to get a table, the line was building as we were leaving.

  1. I’m taking a break from crustaceans too. I had crab linguine the following night and my face went bright red! Figured I had possibly overdone it a bit.

    • Just the thought of it makes me shudder! My friend invited me to the Crawfish Boil for another go and I just couldn’t bring myself to do it – I adore crustaceans, but it’s time to stop for a while… the nights are getting darker and curry is on the stovetop.

  2. Granny option. You’re so funny! I guess that makes me a granny – I don’t like eating late! I know a certain South African husband who would just love it here!!!

My flat Ate was there Thursday- she works in hospitality and ALEAYS has good things to say about this place. Did Sarah with the never ending crustacean appetite partake in this also?

  4. Have you eaten at Meat and Liquor? The same people (so I am told) own Burger and Lobster. I am curious as to how the burgers compare. I mean, a £20 burger needs to be freakin’ fantastic to be worth the money. And the £8 burger at Meat and Liquor is truly fantastic. I’m curious what the extra £12 at B&L gets you.

  5. Sounds fun! I must go there soon! So which option did you find the best for lobster, steamed or steamed + grilled?

  6. I’m intrigued by this elusive £20 burger. One can only hope it comes with a glass of champagne… The lobster sounds divine!
