Lupita

Lupita

I’ve walked past Lupita most days for more than a year now – it’s the Mexican restaurant on the slope that leads from the Strand to Embankment station and I always think “I really need to go in there.” I went in once with Friend R for a cocktail and guacamole but that was ages ago and not a proper meal. Finally, Friends S & G decided, after a glass of wine in the rain at Gordon’s Wine Bar, that it was time to pop in for dinner.

Buzzy friendly atmosphere

What a delicious meal it was. I think it was of a similar quality to the street food we found in Guadalajara, Mexico, and was quite impressed with what I had.

Our starter was guacamole made in front of us (no dodgy ingredients there, just avocado, tomato, red onion, lime, salt and coriander) served with tasty tortilla chips.

Mains were: cerviche served in an avocado for me, and tostadas for the ladies. Plus cocktails for them and agua fresca for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the churros that was served up for dessert.

Cerviche served in an avocado – delicious.

Delicious churros

Unfortunately the photos I took were of poor quality (I blame Gordon’s Wine Bar and their delicious rose) but you get my drift. It’s tasty, appears healthy if you choose carefully and is super convenient, being beside Charing X station and up the street from Embankment. Go there for dinner, you won’t regret it.

Lupita’s guide on how to enjoy Mexican food

Lupita can be found at 13-15 Villiers Street, London WC2N 6ND, up that slope on the right. All up it came to £23 each – not bad considering starters, mains, dessert and cocktails were consumed.

  1. I haven’t had any decent Mexican for ages. I will definitely give it a go (^-^)

Yum! My friend Lindsay just went to a mexican restaurant in Euston. I still don’t know the name of it but she highly recommends. Better than Wahaca, she says.

I discovered this place recently and it has been my favorite Mexican food experience in London yet.

  5. Looks fantastic! And such an easy-to-get-to location as well. I have to admit I’ve never tried churros before (not even when I was in Mexico!) so this might just be the place to do it V x

  6. I love their menu! Isn’t it hilarious? This is right around the corner from me – my offices sort of overlook Gordon’s. We simply must meet up again soon!
